Talk title:
Indigenous Education as a Strategy of the Cauca Regional Indigenous Council (CRIC) for the Autonomy of the Indigenous Peoples of Colombia

Talk Abstract: Since its founding, the CRIC has dreamed of creating an autonomous educational system, and in 2003 it established Colombia’s first Indigenous university, the Autonomous Indigenous Intercultural University. This presentation outlines the role of this university as part of an education system to train Indigenous professionals who combine their own knowledge with Western approaches to contribute to the transformation of, and creation of opportunities in Indigenous territories still ravaged by internal armed conflict, a context that particularly affects young people.
