This small symposium has been organised in honour of colleague Karen Bakker. After her untimely death last year, we learned that she had turned to writing science fiction as a way of bringing her extraordinary research in political ecology to a wider audience. Over the last summer a number of geographers have been working with two creative fiction writers to take Karen’s vision forward by writing our own short stories. We will be reading these stories in a public workshop/symposium on Friday and Saturday. All interested in hearing the outcome of this process, and the movement between social scientific and creative writing are most welcome to attend.
We gratefully acknowledge the support of the Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies, University of Wisconsin-Madison.
