Geography Student Association (GSA) is excited to announce that it will be hosting its second annual professional development event series, GSA Career Weeks, from Jan 14th-24th! The goal of Career Weeks is to help geography undergraduate students gauge the types of opportunities available to them, develop essential professional skills, and build connections that can support their career aspirations.
Co-Op & Go Global Information Sessions & Q&A Booths
Tues, Jan 14th – Geography Building | Time: 12-1pm
This event is ideal for students who are keen on learning more about the career opportunities available to them during their undergraduate degree. The GSA has invited representatives from UBC Arts Co-Op and UBC GoGlobal to share insights and answer questions about what these programs have to offer. The event will be split into two sessions: a presentation in Room 229 (Co-Op: 12-12:25pm; GoGlobal: 12:30-1pm), and a Q&A booth (Co-Op: 12:30-1pm, GoGlobal: 12-12:25pm). RSVP Here

Resume Workshop & Drop-in Clinic

Enhance your resume with the help of experts from the UBC Career Centre and experienced Geography graduates. The first session will cover tailored resume advice, followed by a drop-in clinic joined by senior co-op students and UBC Geography graduates who will review your resume and offer personalized feedback and tips for success. Guest Talk with Curt Garrigan (Chief, Sustainable Urban Development – United Nations ESCAP)

About the Speaker: Mr. Garrigan contributes to ESCAP’s efforts to promote sustainable urban solutions in cities throughout the region. He spent seven years with UN Environment in Paris as Coordinator of the Sustainable Buildings & Climate Initiative & as Cities & Buildings Programme Manager. Prior to joining the UN system, Mr. Garrigan served more than 22 years in operational & management roles for the City of Nashville, Tennessee, including Deputy Mayor, Parks Director, & Infrastructure & Planning Coordinator for the city’s post-Flood Recovery Team.Hear about his career journey and how he has contributed to sustainable urban development worldwide. Getting headshots can be expensive and having a professional photo for your profile is always an asset. The GSA will be doing free, professional headshots for members ($10 for non-members). Students can book a timeslot to get their photo taken here, first-come, first-serve.
