Faculty Position: Assistant Professor in Atmospheric Sciences

Assistant Professor in Geographical Sciences (Atmospheric Sciences)


The Department of Geography at the University of British Columbia (UBC) Vancouver Campus invites applications for a tenure-track position in Geographical Sciences (Atmospheric Sciences) at the rank of Assistant Professor.


Applicants should have research and teaching interests in atmospheric sciences and land-atmosphere interactions that complement existing departmental strengths.  We are interested in (but not limited to) candidates with expertise in the following: biometeorology, measurement and analysis of boundary layer and urban climate, fire weather processes, hydro-climatology, and the use of innovative measurement and/or modelling techniques. Candidates should have an outstanding research program relative to their stage of career, and a stage-appropriate record of excellence and creativity in teaching. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active program of research, graduate supervision, service, and to contribute to teaching in the undergraduate and graduate programs in Geographical Sciences and Atmospheric Science. The appointment will be effective July 1, 2024.


The closing date for applications is October 20, 2023. Applicants should have a Ph.D. (or provide solid indication of imminent completion) in atmospheric science or a strongly related natural science field. Post‐doctoral experience would be an asset.

  3. Research Statement (up to 2 pages) describing your current and proposed research program.
  4. Teaching statement (1 page) describing your teaching philosophy and evidence of teaching effectiveness
  5. Statement (up to 1 page) identifying your past contributions to equity, diversity and inclusion, along with your ability to work with a culturally diverse student body (use specific examples where possible); as well as your philosophy of, and potential future contributions to equity, diversity and inclusion.
  6. Names and contact information for 3 referees.
  7. PDFs of two sample scholarly publications (or include links in the application).
