About
Visiting from University of Wyoming from September 20, 2023- December 4, 2023
I am an associate professor on sabbatical from the School of Politics, Public Affairs, and International Studies/Geography at the University of Wyoming. My research has been on neoliberalism, urban social movement, gender, housing, and urban development in Taiwan. I am doing comparative housing studies in Taiwan, South Korea, the United States, Hong Kong, Singapore, and the Netherlands. My publications are mostly about housing and urban development in Taiwan from political-economic and feminist perspectives. In 2019, I edited a book with LSE geography professor Hyun Bang Shin, Neoliberal Urbanism, Contested Cities and Housing in Asia (The Contemporary City) by Palgrave Macmillan. The papers I am working on compare the formation of social housing in South Korea and Taiwan, the neoliberalization of housing policies in Amsterdam, and policy mobilities about how the policy ideas from the Netherlands are transferred into the social housing movement in Taiwan after 2010. During the visit to UBC, I will also explore the housing problems in Vancouver. To know more about my research, please visit https://uwyo.academia.edu/YiLingChen
