Dr. Siobhán McPhee has been named Associate Dean, Equity, Innovation & Strategy for the Faculty of Arts. The appointment runs from July 20, 2021 to June 30, 2024.
An Associate Professor of Teaching at UBC Geography, Dr. McPhee has been extensively involved in curriculum development and renewal in the department, in addition to taking a leading role in the deployment and evaluation of blended learning models during the pandemic. Her innovative approach has contributed greatly to the use of technology in teaching and learning, as exemplified by her use of AR in geography courses.
Gage Averill, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, welcomed the appointment; “Drawing upon her educational experiences in multiple international contexts and her passion for teaching, curriculum development, and innovation, Dr. McPhee has proven to be a successful teacher and innovative educator who takes seriously her role as a leader in developing teaching and learning strategies within her discipline of geography and within UBC at large.”
Dr. McPhee looks forward to the opportunities the new role will bring; “I will strive to empower faculty, staff and students within the Faculty of Arts to make it a more equitable space where innovation is celebrated and where collaboration across UBC and beyond is central.”
