Featured initiatives

Sandy Lapsky Award
Founded by long-time and much-loved former Geography head administrator Sandy Laspky, this annual award supports international graduate students in good academic standing in the Department of Geography.  

Karen Bakker Memorial Fund
This fund was established in 2023 to honour the late Dr. Karen Bakker, beloved faculty member, colleague, friend and mother with a great passion for geography, the environment and community engagement. Gifts to this fund will pay tribute to Karen’s life and career by supporting Geography graduate students. 

Climate Studies IBPOC Student Support Fund
The fund supports undergraduate students from Indigenous, Black and other racialized communities of colour who are studying climate change at UBC. In the spirit of repair the fund aims recognize and address inequities that IBPOC students face, and the underrepresentation of IBPOC people in climate research in Canada, acknowledging the vital perspectives they bring to understanding and addressing the climate emergency.
