Welcome Dr. Michelle Daigle, a new Postdoctoral Research Fellow at UBC Geography beginning October 2015!
Dr. Daigle is a member of the Cree nation (Constance Lake First Nation) and has over 10 years of experience as a community-based researcher and educator with Indigenous communities in Canada and the U.S. She wants to bring Geography into critical dialogue with Indigenous ontologies on colonial dispossession as well as Indigenous movements for self-determination, decolonization and resurgence. Her current work “examines how Indigenous foodways, including food trading networks (gifting economies), challenge colonial territorial boundaries while cultivating a multi-scalar decolonial politics that rebuilds Indigenous governance structures and political economies.”
