On September 27, millions of people worldwide will be striking from school and work to demand that the climate crisis be acted on as an emergency.
UBC students, staff and faculty are organizing an event to take place September 27 at 11 am in front of AMS Nest, with a bus and bike convoy afterwards to meet with other strikers at Vancouver City Hall (1-4 pm).
The Department of Geography fully supports this action and encourages students to participate.
Many instructors have cancelled classes and accommodations will be made for any students who miss those that go ahead as scheduled. If you have a class on Friday, please contact your instructor for more details.
We invite all students to participate in a special climate change event hosted by Geography professors in the OId Auditorium from 9-9.50 am on September 27th, and a sign-making event in the Department of Geography from 10-10.45. Students, staff and faculty are invited to assemble on the back lawn of the department so we can walk to the strike as a Department.
More details will follow in the week leading up to the strike, including events planned by the UBC Geography Students’ Association.
