Chris Meulbroek

Sessional Lecturer (Term 2)

About

Pursuing a PhD degree

Research Areas: geographical political economy, critical development studies, political geography, East Asia

Supervisors: Jim Glassman and Jamie Peck

Degrees:  BA Economics and Geography with honors, Indiana University, 2017; MA Geography, University of British Columbia, 2020

Research Statement: My research focuses on the geopolitical economy of development and economic policy formation in the Asia-Pacific region. I am interested in how states attempt to manage crises that extend beyond their own borders – through practices like multilateral development aid, technical assistance, and trade agreements – and how new political terrains, alliances, and conflicts are forged through these practices. I am currently in the process of designing my dissertation project.
