About

Pursuing a Master of Arts degree

Research Areas: Visual and Sonic Arts in Activism

Supervisor: Dr. Geraldine Pratt

Degrees: Honours Bachelor of Arts (University of Toronto)

Entry Date: September 2023

Expected Graduation Date: 2025

Research Statement: I explore the intersections between migrant justice, environmental justice, and the arts as a tool for activism. My current research focuses on intergenerational connections within and amongst Pilipino migrants who are family/kin in Canada. I am particularly interested in how sharing and engaging with traditional food knowledge impacts these relationships, as well as close groups’ empowerment and wellbeing. My other ongoing research interests include the sachet economy in the Philippines, particularly focusing on the phenomenon’s sociocultural underpinnings as they implicate environmental movements. As a multimedia artist, my work consists of personal reflections on transient identities, fluidities/waterscapes intrinsic to diasporic imaginaries, and anything that feels vibrant at the time.
