Honours

The Human Geography honours program provides advanced training in geographical research and methodology to outstanding, highly motivated students.

Curriculum

The Honours program differs from the major in two respects: degree of specialization and standing, which must be at least 74% average of all courses taken for entry and graduation.

Students will be expected to complete 48 credits of upper-level geography courses.

For the degree of specialization, they must complete 18 credits, with six credits from each of the following themes:

  • Cultures and Places
  • Cities and Globalization
  • Nature and Society

One of these courses must have substantial focus beyond North America.

To complete the program, students will need to complete 12 additional credits on top of the above curriculum.

*Please note that students in the Human Geography Honours program may not complete a minor in Human Geography or Environment and Sustainability.

Admissions

Students who are interested in the Honours program should consult with the Geography Undergraduate Advisor before the end of their second year or at the beginning of their third year. There are a limited number of seats available and students applying must hold a minimum average of 74% for all geography courses.
