2020 Colloquium Series

The first of our 2020 Geography colloquia is on Tuesday 7th January.

Science of Landscapes and Landscapes of Science: A Feminist History of Geomorphology will be delivered by associate professor Michele Koppes (UBC Geography) and Dr. Leonora King (Kwantlen Polytechnic University).

In this presentation, we aim to disrupt the geomorphology community’s cultural memory of objectivity and neutrality by critically engaging with its relatively young history. The field has evolved into its current form within the last century.

We revisit geomorphology’s history using a Feminist Science lens to analyze how gender, race and colonialism have been folded into the fabric of the discipline and influenced the field’s trajectory over the past century.

Join us in Geography Room 229, from 12:30 to 1:45pm.
