The 2022 TA and Stellar Staff Awards were announced at the department’s holiday gathering on Wednesday 7th December.
Congratulations to all the recipients, and even though the awards highlight the work of a few people each year, we are grateful to each and every member of the UBC Geography community.
2022 Stellar Staff Award | Jose Aparicio, Computer Lab Supervisor
Jose was nominated by staff, faculty and undergraduate students. They described how, during his more than 20 years working at UBC, he has gone well beyond the duties of his position and has established himself as essential member of our community.
Jose is always willing to help and his positive ‘can do’ attitude and personal kindness have contributed to a happier environment in the department. He rarely makes mistakes, his nominators wrote, and yet he is exceedingly generous when others make them.

All Geography TAs work incredibly hard and make our courses a better experience for students. This year, we would like to recognize Carlie Hughes and Mike Jerowsky in particular.
